27 August 2020

Wilmslow blog

After some heavy rain and far too much time spent indoors, the nation is longing for a sunny bank holiday weekend. With more and more shops, restaurants and pubs open for us to visit safely, here’s our guide to making the most of the last bank holiday weekend of the year in Wilmslow.

Saturday morning

It’s the beginning of the long weekend and the perfect time for some retail therapy. Whether you’re looking for gifts for your loved ones or on the lookout for something new for the wardrobe, retail therapy is always a good way to start your day, especially in the heart of Wilmslow, with its array of acclaimed independent high-end boutiques.
In the windows of award-winning Black White Denim are a range of high-quality ladies and men’s clothes attentively created by over 40 independent designers. There’s also London formed Caroline Charles to explore. Whether you’re after wardrobe essentials or trend-setting outfits, the bank holiday weekend is the perfect excuse to treat yourself!

Saturday Evening

Wilmslow is not short of quaint pubs and classic eateries to enjoy. Whether you’re searching for a family-friendly spot or something a little different, there are plenty of local hidden gems to choose from.
If you’re looking for a classic country pub, The Honey Bee is a must-visit. A former private home then a local inn, a public house now sits on the premises, serving British favourites and country pub classics such as fish and chips, steaks and pies.
If you’ve got family visiting, the family-friendly Bulls Head on Handforth Road has something for everyone. Located in a gorgeous rural setting with plentiful indoor and outdoor seating, you can enjoy a drink, light bites or full evening meal.
Or, if you’re after some traditional Chinese cuisine, you can travel a little further to Alderley and enjoy a meal at Yu Alderley Edge. The restaurant boasts classics such as duck pancakes, salt and pepper ribs and dim sum, as well as a selection of contemporary takes on traditional dishes.

Sunday

Wilmslow is lucky enough to be just over 10 miles away from the heart of the Peak District National Park, the perfect location to explore and enjoy some fantastic views across some of Britain’s famous scenery. There’s an array of walks and cycle trails to suit the leisurely walker or the more active individual.

There’s no argument that the best way to spend a Sunday is to enjoy a classic Sunday roast. According to Trip Advisor and Google The Clink restaurant is unofficially recognised as the best roast in the area! Situated in a converted chapel at HMP Styal, the restaurant is run by The Clink Charity who work with prisoners in training who are working towards gaining their City & Guilds NVQs in Food & Beverage Service, Professional Cookery & Hygiene. The Sunday lunch menu has something for everyone; a full three course treat is on offer with pork belly, fish, beef, chicken, and vegetarian options for a main followed by a tantalising selection of desserts. You’ll be spoilt for choice!

Monday Morning

Why not walk off your weekend and stretch your legs at Styal Country Park on Monday morning? Lovely strolls along the river, plenty of adorable picnic spots and even museums, this park on the River Bollin is the perfect location, just a stone’s throw away from home, to enjoy a quiet day.
Also situated within the park is Quarry Bank Mill (also known as Styal Mill). Dubbed one of Britain's greatest industrial heritage sites, it is home to a working mill and complete industrial community owned by the National Trust. Following its recent reopening you can book a timed slot to visit the gardens and woodland.

From a history enthusiast to a dog walker, Styal Country Park is a beloved green space for locals, frequently visited on the weekend and sunny days.
