Originally from Scotland Clare (61) and her husband, Nick (65), have decided to make our Steepleton community their home. Having previously owned a Grade II listed property near Wotton under Edge which was set on a couple of acres of land, Clare and Nick decided it was time to downsize. “The things we didn’t consider a problem when we were in our 30s now are as we approached our 60s”. After selling their large property, Clare and Nick were keen to find a new home to rent in the local area which accommodated their needs. They were determined to find an apartment that could also be home to their two beautiful bearded collies, Malarkey and Beryl. Finding the rental market quite limited when it came to renting with pets, Clare and Nick were pleased to stumble upon Steepleton, which they found to be the ideal place to settle once they had visited. “We knew we wanted to stay here, it was convenient and we loved it”.

Clare and Nick decided now was the right time for them to downsize after receiving some advice that stuck with them: “Make your last home move by the time you are 65. It sounds early but from 65 onwards it can get progressively more and more difficult. When you have a family home and have accumulated a lot of belongings it becomes harder to make that move and just move on”.

Now living at Steepleton Clare, Nick, Malarkey and Beryl couldn’t be happier. “The dogs love it! They actually get a better life here because we are so close to the Tetbury Trail and they get between 3-5 miles a day”. They have found they now have more time to be able to do the things they enjoy and go out on long walks rather than having to spend their time doing major building projects and maintenance. “I’ve got more time to say yes”. Nick and Clare have also become an active part of the Steepleton Community “We’ve embraced the Steepleton lifestyle and have been able to get involved. Clare has become an Avon Representative and holds regular Avon Parties in the Residents Lounge”.

The apartments at Steepleton benefit from an open plan layout which has made the downsizing process a lot easier “we have all settled in well and we haven’t been missing the extra space because of the way the apartment is laid out is perfect for us”. As well as this they no longer have to worry about heating a large family home and a 74 item long to-do list! “My new to-do list has about 6 things on it which includes nice small tasks unlike what I had before”.

“It has been perfect and it’s been a revelation to us”.
