With holidaying abroad still a bit up in the air (no pun intended) the staycation is becoming a more and more popular choice.

For those living at our wonderful Hortsley community Seaford, it may already feel like they are enjoying a permanent staycation with its close proximity to the sea and being nestled in the lovely coastal town of Seaford.

To spread the joy of that staycation feel to others living in the area and those visiting, we looked at some of the things to do and places to explore in a county that has it all:

Seven Sisters Country Park

Close to Seaford and accessible by car, bus or train is the stunning Seven Sisters Country Park. There are plenty of things to do and ways to enjoy the park and the wildlife from a gentle stroll to cycling or even kayaking. As one of 10 Dark Skies Discovery Sites within the National Park, Seven Sisters Country Park is one of the best places to view the night sky so take a blanket to lie on and wrap up warm. For those planning to make a visit, a new cycle hire service is also planned at Seven Sisters Country Park and is hoped to open Summer/Autumn 2021.

Rathfinney Wine estate

Near the pretty village of Alfriston is one of Sussex’s leading vineyards making award-winning Sussex Sparkling Wines. Visit the estate for a fantastic day out where you can enjoy self-guided walking tours or a guided tour of the estate followed by a tasting. Make a weekend of it by booking a room in The Flint Barns and treating yourself to a delicious meal to round of the day in The Dining Room or pick the gourmet tasting menu in the Tasting Room Restaurant.

Be a King and Queen for a night or two

Amberley Castle is a quintessential medieval castle complete with a (working) portcullis, crenelated turrets and 60ft stone walls. It’s also a sumptuous luxury hotel and the perfect place for a truly indulgent staycation. There’s a tennis court, beautifully landscaped gardens and a golf course. Or hire an ebike and explore Amberley on two electrically powered wheels. Southern Ebike Rental will meet you at your rental location with your bike with everything you need to know and will help you choose a route. Afterwards, return to Amberley Castle for a relaxing and delicious meal in the award-winning restaurant.

Bank holiday fun

Enjoy a delightful day out at The Pashley Manor Gardens Contemporary Craft Show organised by The Sussex Guild. Guild members will be showing their excellent and inspiring work including beautiful examples of ceramics, furniture, textiles, jewellery, woodwork, glass, metalwork and more. The gardens at Pashley Manor are worth exploring too, this quintessential English garden is located on the Sussex and Kent border close to Ticehurst. It has been described as one of the finest gardens in England, a sumptuous blend of romantic landscaping, imaginative plantings and fine old trees, fountains and large ponds as well as contemporary sculpture. Produce from the Kitchen Garden, which is at its most bountiful in summer, can be sampled at the excellent Garden Room Café.

Explore the stunning towns of Sussex

With its well-connected railway station and bus service, some of the charming surrounding towns of Sussex are easy to get to and make for wonderful days out. Places like Arundel, Lewes and Rye are steeped in history and are beautiful places to wander around with plenty of artisan cafes and shops. Both Arundel and Lewes have castles and Rye offers picture perfect cobbled streets and is nearby to the glorious Camber Sands.
