Developer PegasusLife, part of Lifestory Group, is celebrating after its stunning development, One Bayshill Road, in the historic Montpellier district of Cheltenham, was hailed with the ‘Good Neighbour’ Housing Design Award.

The highly revered industry accolade, which dates to 1948, introduced the ‘Good Neighbour’ award last year to honour the next generation of conservation area quality. One Bayshill Road was selected by a panel of industry expert judges from a highly competitive shortlist of entries. In the first time in over 70 years, the winners were virtually announced by the Minister of State for Housing, Christopher Pincher MP with the ceremony watched online by many high-profile figures from government and the housebuilding industry.

Designed by Glenn Howells Architects, drawing inspiration from the distinguished streets of its historic surrounds, One Bayshill Road touches on the traditional and the modern. The two Grade II listed villas have been sympathetically restored to compliment the Regency architecture of the street, while a modern building seamlessly connects them.

The space offers something special to both its owners and the wider community which was a particular highlight for the judges: “We loved how the One Bayshill Road project elegantly and originally bridges two Regency buildings with a nod to its classical proportions. The project also provides the residents outdoor space, access to a large roof terrace and to a local bistro which the public also can enjoy, ensuring a true community feel.”

The development comprises 50 one, two and three-bedroom later living apartments with a variety of sociable spaces which have been inspired by Cheltenham’s thriving cultural scene. Alongside the outdoor spaces, owners can enjoy the wellness spa, gym and stretch studio and socialise with neighbours in the owners’ lounge. The onsite Bistro, The Larder is perfectly situated in the modern building, offering the perfect spot for brunch with friends or evening drinks and a meal with visiting family.

Mike Gill, Regional Managing Director for Lifestory said: “One Bayshill Road is a project we are extremely proud of. The unique offering of two historic Grade II listed villas had to be treated with respect and carefully designed to maintain its Regency splendour whilst being able to offer modern day homes and amenities.

“The National Housing Design Award is a fantastic result, and we’re honoured to be the second winner of the ‘Good Neighbour’ award which is real testament to the seamless combination of benefits for its owners and the local community. The project is a result of working closely with Cheltenham Borough Council and the local communities to provide homes our owners are extremely proud to call home and an exciting new restaurant which will be the talk of the town!”
