“When I moved to The Vincent I got a new lease of life”

Alison Dixon The Vincent v2

Alison Dixon, who studied Mathematics at Cambridge University and is a keen walker having travelled to nearly all the major mountain ranges in the world, recently sat down with us to tell us about her journey that led to calling The Vincent home.

Alison and her husband Richard met during their time at Cambridge University where their adventure together began, first moving to Canada for a few years, then Sheffield and finally to Bristol where they settled down for 50 years and raised their family.

When Alison’s husband passed away last year, she knew she wanted to move from her 5 bedroom detached house “I got to the stage where I couldn’t look after it, especially with half an acre of garden it was very hard work.”

Alison shared with us why she chose The Vincent “I didn’t realise there was a place like this in Bristol and what made me fall for it was not just the grounds and ambiance, but when I walked into my apartment it was the space and the view I was sold on. I couldn't bear to live anywhere else.” One of the nice things about living in one of the highest apartments is that Alison gets lovely views of the gardens, “I do get a nice feeling of being in a garden all the time, although I don’t need to be involved in maintaining it.”

Alison told us “I like living in Bristol and the position is wonderful, it’s close to the Downs and Redland Park, so there are nice walks, it’s close to the shops and it’s on so many bus routes.” Alison explained to us that one of the things she loves about living at The Vincent is the walks.

As well as the location, Alison said the onsite team are excellent, very helpful and happy to join in things. One memory that stood out to her in particular was Burns night when General Manager Keith Turnbull wore his kilt and toasted the haggis in the on-site restaurant “this was great."

Alison likes to take part in most events and told us that a lot of events happen at The Vincent. “It’s wonderful, especially with the croquet up and running and all the trips away. The community is so welcoming and everyone is very helpful.”

“I feel it’s home here and felt this as soon as I moved here. Moving in when I did I got a new lease of life - it has changed my whole expectations frankly. I’ve never regretted it ever."
