Blooming in Bourne End

Based nearby to our Wharf Lane community in Cookham is Devine Flowers. A specialist florist providing blooms to the local community as well as the television and theatre industry.

We’ve teamed up with them to provide our new owners and rental members a beautiful bunch of flowers when they move into Wharf Lane, so we caught up with owner Adam to find out a little more about them, and his favourite spots in the local area.

Hi Adam, can you tell us a bit about yourself and Devine Flowers?

I originally trained as a chef at the Michelin starred L’ortlan in Reading. I then worked in a number of hotels before stumbling into flowers around 17 years ago when Devine Flowers was established.

We opened our first shop in Cookham on Valentines Day in 2004, not a bad day to open a florist! We started out as a boutique, high street shop and from there the business has grown into different areas. We now supply the flowers for a whole range of events including Royal Ascot, Glorious Goodwood and the Guards Polo in Windsor.

We also supply bouquets for television and theatre sets and have worked on a number of hit shows such as The Bodyguard.

We’re really looking forward to the displays you’ll provide for our new owners, have you had any thoughts on the flowers you’ll use?

We’ll be using seasonal flowers that are representative of the local area. We also want the display to have a touch of calm, so owners can relax in their new homes, so we’ll use some lavender or eucalyptus – or even a stalk of rosemary for mindfulness.

What are your favourite events to put together arrangements for?

I love working on a wedding, especially a big one! We can be creative and really go all out for a day that people will remember forever.

Over the summer we started doing private dinner parties for people’s gardens, these were great fun and as they were smaller we needed to be a bit more imaginative about the displays we put together.

I do also enjoy doing the Cartier Queen’s Cup Polo, we get to do the Royal Box and look after her Majesty, which is very fabulous and extravagant as I’m sure you can imagine.

What do you like most about living/ working in Cookham/ Bourne End?

It’s so close to the river with some fantastic open spaces – combined with some really amazing local restaurants. We have Tom Kerridge in Marlow and Heston Blumenthal down the road in Bray. There is also a great range of local, independent shops whilst also being just over 30 minutes from Central London which is a huge bonus.
